Your Grow Starts Here
What’s Included - 1 Kit
- 1 × 3 lb sterilized whole-oat grain bag
- 2 × 4 lb pasteurized CVG substrate bags
- 11 lbs of prepared growing media
Genetics and monotub are not included.
What Else You’ll Need
- A legal mushroom liquid culture or spore syringe
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Clean gloves
- A clean workspace
- A bag sealer or another suitable way to securely close the bags when growing in them, such as rubber bands or binder clips.
- A suitable monotub if using the monotub method
Start Here: Inoculate Your Grain
- Clean your workspace, hands, grain bag, and inoculation equipment.
- Follow the sterile-handling instructions provided with your legal mushroom culture or syringe.
- Introduce the mushroom culture into the sterilized grain bag.
- Store the bag under conditions appropriate for your mushroom species.
- Allow the grain to colonize completely before combining it with the CVG substrate.
Colonization time varies depending on the mushroom genetics and growing conditions.
Option 1: Grow in the Bags
- Divide the fully colonized grain evenly between the two CVG bags.
- Mix the grain thoroughly throughout the substrate.
- Securely close the bags and allow the substrate to colonize.
- Once fully colonized, introduce fruiting conditions appropriate for your mushroom species.
- Monitor growth and harvest at the proper stage.
Growing in the bags is a simple, contained option that requires less additional equipment.
Option 2: Grow in a Monotub
- Clean your monotub and workspace.
- Break up the fully colonized grain.
- Combine the grain with both CVG substrate bags inside the monotub.
- Mix evenly and level the surface without heavily compacting it.
- Allow the substrate to colonize before introducing fruiting conditions appropriate for your mushroom species.
- Monitor growth and harvest at the proper stage.
A monotub provides a larger growing surface but requires additional equipment and environmental control.
Storage & Shelf Life
For best results, use your grain and substrate as soon as possible after delivery.
Store unopened bags in a clean, cool area away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Always inspect bags before use.
